- Syllabi on speaking topics listed on home page
- Utah Medical Association Bulletin articles
- "Thyroid,
New Frontiers." (40 pages, 400+ references) Thyroid dysfunction is quite common, and often under
diagnosed and under treated. Environmental and nutritional causes are seldom addressed. Non-pharmaceutical approaches are discussed,
as well as the benefits of more in-depth testing.
- "Mind and Nutrition." Linus Pauling published a landmark article in the Journal Science in 1968, titled "Orthomolecular Psychiatry." He anticipated the latest research showing that many mental and emotional problems may be treated through nutritional interventions.
Sweet Death
is the most recent book published by Dr. Hugo Rodier
It focuses on an epidemic sweeping our country which kills more people than any war. Sadly, our health care system, government, and even our schools are failing to educate the public about the massive epidemic of "sweet death."
Obesity is not only changing the way we look,
it's changing the way our bodies function. We are slowly poisoning our cells so they are unable to communicate
optimally, resulting in diseases like diabetes or metabolic syndrome. Billions
of dollars are being spent on the consequences of the problem, yet very little is being done in the realm of prevention.
Sweet Death will open your eyes to the
insidious, overwhelming epidemic that is slowly killing America.

Books
"Sweet Death"
The epidemic of obesity and diabetes is driven by a powerful addiction to refined sugars. This book discusses the political and economic issues driving the problem,
and how it affects every health problem we have, and how we might solve it.

"Energy, Communication, and your Health"
This book discusses these ancient principles governing the whole
universe. Physicists have already caught on, and now doctors are starting to do research on
how these principles affect our health. Metabolomics/Energy, and cell communication are leading research issues at the moment. Learn how you may incorporate these simple principles behind all diseases.

"Syndrome X"
Research is demonstrating that the ever-growing problems of obesity and diabetes, as well as circulatory and immune problems are linked to a metabolic imbalance being dubbed syndrome X. Dr. Rodier explains how hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance are contributing to a variety of health problems and presents treatment protocols that have valid scientific evidence behind them. He also presents case studies showing how
nutritional supplements and therapies have helped in real life situations.

"Natural Remedies for
Common Ailments"
Health problems all have the same
origins. Striking at the root issues will result in better health, no matter
what the problem. Here you will find hundreds of references supporting the use of many herbs and nutritional supplements.

"Time to Untangle Doctors from Pharmaceutical's Web," Utah Medical Association Bulletin, March 2005
Last
fall, we witnessed a flurry of “news” about the pharmaceutical approach still firmly in control of the practice of Medicine. It began with the report about Vioxx. Since Merck knew clear back in 2001 (when they introduced their drug) that Vioxx doubled the risk of heart attacks and clotting problems in general, it is hard to classify this revelation as “news.” Before expounding on the significant problems this report has uncovered, I must state what practically all physicians agree on: pharmaceutical drugs have brought significant relief of pain and suffering to countless individuals, and for that we are grateful.
But, are drugs being over-prescribed? Are the pharmaceutical companies putting profits before the health of our patients? Are doctors unduly influenced by the pharmaceutical industry? Are pharmaceutical studies manipulated to overstate their benefits and hide problems or worse, lack of efficacy? Are doctors following “standards of care” that have been put in place to maximize drug prescribing? Are so-called “alternative” modalities really that terrible, or does
medicine suffer from an over-emphasis on drug prescribing?
Answers to the above questions will be debated for a while. Who signs our
pay checks will likely be a very strong variable on how we respond as physicians.
“Epigenetics:
From Genomics to Nutragenomics and Toxicogenomics," Utah Med Assoc Bulletin, February 2004
Models are already surfacing about how dietary-induced fluctuations in genes and their expression products can modify pathways associated with carcinogen activation and detoxification, alter rates of cellular proliferation, influence apoptosis and modify angiogenesis. Embracing new genomic technologies offers exciting opportunities for advancing nutrition, especially those related to cancer prevention. (J. Nutrition 2003;133:3826s.)
"Our
Main Goal: Empowering Patients," Utah Med Assoc Bulletin, October 2002
Patients do better if they are helped to understand basic health concepts and lifestyle changes. By treating
the symptoms and the consequences of poor choices, we are enabling their dysfunction. Health care workers would be more helpful if they were teachers of health.
"We
are Barbarians at the Gate of Cellular Function," Utah Med Assoc Bulletin, February 2002
The last few Nobel Prizes in Medicine and Biology are increasing our understanding of basic issues about our health. For example,
insulin resistance, the scourge of our society, is a failure to communicate messages at the cell membrane level. Fixing the cell membrane nutritionally can improve our health, no matter the diagnosis.
"Food is the
Best Medicine," Utah Med Assoc Bulletin, May 2005
The fathers of medicine, Hippocrates and Sir William Osler both stated our health is mostly the result of good nutritional choices. Modern research is confirming these intuitive concepts. Nutrition will become more prominent in medical treatment.
"Glycobiology:
Looking, Licking Beyond the Surface," Utah Med Assoc Bulletin, November 2001
Refined sugars, and the lack of healthy ones, is causing significant problems with cell communication, since cell membrane receptors and messengers are really "glycoproteins," or proteins that must have the correct sugars attached to them for proper structure and function.
